Cross browser compatibility refers to the ability of a website, application or script to function correctly accross different browsers, such as Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge, Safari, and others. Each browser has distinct rendering engines, and each of those engines processes the code written for other websites in its own unique way.

For example, you will recognize a CSS related issue when elements don't appear in the same place accross different browsers, don't appear to resolve properly, or simply don't load at all - precisely due to the different interpretation of code.
