Budgeting for your website

This video shares the expenses involved in getting your website up and running.

There are three main costs which vary depending on the features and functionality and your comfort level for doing it yourself vs. paying someone to do it for you:

  • The domain name
  • Developing and maintaining the site
  • Website hosting

There are two pathways you can go down for building your website:

Regardless of which option you choose, do your research to determine what’s included. Some additional cost can include a domain name or website security.

If you're going to get a bundle, make sure that the website builder that you choose can handle all of your site's features based on your business needs.

If you’re not sure what you need, you may need to hire a pro. Hiring a pro can be really useful if you don't have the time to learn how to do it yourself or maybe you have a really highly complex or customizable site, or both.

Pricing for a pro varies and if you go that route, make sure you know what you’re paying for. Is your domain included? Hosting? Does the cost include maintenance and updates? These are all things you need to consider when budgeting for your site.

And there's no simple answer. How much your website costs depends on your personal preference - the vision you have for your site!
