What is the difference between Archiving and Backup?

We offer two data retention add-ons for your Office 365 email: Archiving and Backup. Find out the differences, and which is right for your business.

Archiving

Archiving is the perfect solution for folks in industries that are required to comply with retention policies by state and/or federal laws; particularly finance, healthcare, legal, and real estate. Archiving will save you time and money in the event of an audit, or litigation. You can specify your data retention periods, and security protocols ensure absolutely no data loss.

How does it work?

Every single email and attachment that is sent and received is saved securely in the cloud. You have access to in-depth search, tagging, and legal hold capabilities for both email content, and attachments. Emails can be exported in a variety of file formats.

Backup

Backup is the perfect solution for business owners looking for a safeguard against accidental or malicious deletion, and continuity solutions in the event of employee turnover. If you are not within a regulated industry, but want the ability to recover any old email or entire mailbox, then Backup is the way to go.

How does it work?

A copy of your entire mailbox is taken at regular, configurable intervals. Your data can be restored by the individual email, or in bulk, and data can be restored back to the original location in a single click. You can even restore folders, contacts, notes, calendars, and task items.
